The Sterling Group is a fast-growing, operationally focused, and top performing middle-market private equity firm, with over $5.0 billion in assets under management. We are looking for intellectually curious individuals want to ultimately build winning businesses in the industrial sector.
As a member of the Commercial Diligence and Strategy (CD&S) group, you will have the opportunity to:
Influence decisions on investments worth hundreds of millions of dollars
Develop growth strategies (e.g., market entry, product expansion) for portfolio companies, which could help double their revenue in ~5 years and ultimately elevate them as market leaders in their industries
Identify investment themes (i.e., most attractive industries) that will guide the entire firm’s effort in the next 5-10 years
Support exit planning initiatives (e.g., positioning the company to go public)
Lead internal firm initiatives that you’re passionate about (e.g., ESG) and shape Sterling’s future

Who do we look for?
We are open to undergraduates from all backgrounds – there’s no “perfect” major. Ultimately, we are looking for candidates who are:
Critical thinkers, with an ability to break down complex problems
Comfortable with ambiguous, ever-changing situations
Able to work collaboratively on a team (while also driving an independent workstream)
Continuously looking for ways to learn and improve
What is your role?
As an analyst, you will join a ~3-4-person team and will undergo a steep learning curve in a fast-paced environment – with regular training and mentorship along your journey, as you build both qualitative and quantitative analytical skills. Tactically, example responsibilities include: interviewing industry experts (e.g., customers, suppliers, competitors), building market models to forecast industry growth, building and analyzing consumer surveys, etc. – all of which will ultimately be shared with deal team Partners, lenders, etc. as we develop a view on a potential new acquisition.
How will you grow?
In your first year, you will gain exposure to a broad range of industries – from residential housing to powersports. You will learn about various industry dynamics (e.g., customer bargaining power, competitive intensity, barriers to entry) in great depth.
Throughout your journey, you will be coached by other members of the team and develop exceptional problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills – skills that will prepare you to succeed in almost any career. Additionally, through direct interactions with Partners, Principals, VPs, company management teams, etc., you will learn to think like an investor.
Mentorship and feedback are an integral part of your development at Sterling. You will receive regular feedback – and will be encouraged to provide feedback to others, as the team grows together.
