Founded in 1982, The Sterling Group is a private equity investment firm that targets controlling interests in basic manufacturing, distribution and industrial services companies. Typical enterprise values of these companies range from $100 million to $750 million. Sterling has sponsored the buyout of 62 platform companies and numerous add-on acquisitions for a total transaction value of over $14.0 billion. Sourcing Associate

Sterling uses a diversified approach to sourcing high-quality investment opportunities and has built a robust infrastructure to support these activities. The firm originates investment opportunities from sources including investment banks, directly calling on business owners, field experts, and an ever- expanding executive network. This position will collaborate closely with the investment team across these initiatives.

Central to the Sterling approach is the development of investment themes and assessment of the add-on acquisition potential of new platforms.

This individual will participate in all aspects of the business development process, including deal origination and qualification, relationship management, database management, industry/market research and marketing.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with team in identifying M&A opportunities during the diligence process.

Manage internal CRM (DealCloud) and produce monthly reporting for firm review.

Build out case studies and other marketing materials.

Collaborate with our execution professionals on presentation materials for prospective investment opportunities.

Manage and execute research efforts for all theme development.

Maintain ongoing dialogue and manage follow up activities.

Support firm-wide relationships with investment bankers and corporate development professionals.

Participate in the firm’s investment banker outreach programs.

Attend relevant industry conferences, corporate development conferences, and relevant networking events.


Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or Marketing

2 years of experience in any of these different areas; capital markets, private equity, institutional sales, commercial lending, inside sales for an industrial or manufacturing company

Exposure to Private Equity and Private Equity owned companies

Proficiency in financial modeling, Excel and other statistical packages


Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong organization and time management skills are essential
